Hi everyone, I have trawled the posts before I have added this post and I think I just need confirmation of what I think the problem is.
My 2000 W 1.9tdi Bora (90hp) sometimes has a clatter/rattle from the engine on tickover. If I apply any rev the noise disappears.
After reading the posts the concensus seems to be that the noise is from a chain rattling due to incorrect tension caused by lack of oil pressure.
Can anyone confirm if I am thinking along the right lines?
If it is a chain rattling I can only assume it is the chain that that drives the oil pump?? (is there such a chain on the 1.9tdi engine?)
I Dont think it is anything cambelt related as if the cambelt was loose the engine wouldnt be running at all!
Is it a noise I can ignore?
Is it likely to be expensive to get it fixed?
The car has has recent cam belt change (got reciept) and I have changed oil and filter recently (castrol fully synthetic magnatec)
Many thanks in advance.
Jon
