Hello,
i have a 07 A4 2.0 tdi 170 and the other nite the DPF light came on so i read the owners manual an it said to try an clear it, ie drive in 4th or 5th gear over 2000rpm for 15 mins or so.

So i did this for about 30 minutes then the Glowplug light and the engine management light came on and the car lost power, i have learned that this is all DPF realated.

Does anyone know the cure, can it still be regenerated or how is it fixed?
Can it be removed totally?

Thanks

What mileage are you on?
Is this first time you have seen this?

What is speed limit on your roads, have you got nice long 60mph/70mph straights or such?

Could also be a faulty DPF sensor, mine had a campaign (factory recall) issue that meant that changed under warranty.

Im on 61000 miles and yes this is the first ive seen it.
most of the cars running is in the country 10-20 mile journeys at 70-80mph most of the time

Yes the car is an 8EC and an engine code of BRD.
Ive phoned audi aberdeen and the technicians are still on holiday they are goin to phone back tomorrow, only thing is live a 12 hour ferry journey to the nearest Audi center.

Not sure but from what i can make out is that when the DPF light comes on this means that it is 55% full and when the glow plug light and engine management lights also come on this means that the DPF is 75% full and it is now unable to be regenerated itself and need putten to Audi? Is this correct?

cheers

We have had this on a number of A5 TDi's and initially the DPF light comes on followed by the other warning lights you mention. Our local friendly Audi dealer have cured this with a clean and regeneration and a bill of under £100

Here is the whole vcds results

Hello is this 076 906 051A the part number for the G450 sensor?
And also where is the G450 sensor placed is it easy to access and fit?

I had a look at Martins log where in the log is the DPF soot %?

Its a bit o pain because i live in shetland (island at the top of scotland) and nearest audi dealer is Aberdeen which is a 12 hour ferry journey away and around £450-500 a trip :(...
So this why i am trying to self diagnose/fix!

Thanks for everybodys input.

How do i know if its just a regen i need or the g450 sensor?
Yeah hopefully the soot level wont be much above 75% since ive not used it since engine management and glow plug lights has come on.

Got an update for you guys,
Plugged the car in to VCDS again and the MVB soot was 89.1% while stationry then we started the emergency regeneration (which took it out of limp mode) and took off it then went up to 91.7% the it started steadily decreasing till 20 mins later it was down to 0.2%

Thanks for everyones help and the links posted were a great help.

Useful info, I have had similar symptons recently with DPF warning light and flashing glow plug. I have VAG-COM and started manual regenerations twice before looking into further.
My experience saw the % change from around 15% after a manually initiated regeneration, to about 60% in 2 days (30 miles) followed by more warning lights etc.
I had a 008194 fault code logged which relates to Particulate Trap Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold.

As a last resort before sending car off to Audi dealer, I decied to gamble 50 quid on buying a G450 sensor after reading a few posts on here (thanks all!). Was a 15 minute job to change the sensor (simple to even someone like me!), then recoded using vagcom. Within about 3 miles the % had dropped to about 3 and was still droppping when I got home. All looks much better now :)

With hindsight I should have realised something was wrong as engine was constantly regenerating DPF. You can tell this by engine smoothness suddenly changing at traffic lights!

Now car seems much smoother, and fuel economy much improved!

I have a audi a3 1.9 tdi E 57 plate and my dpf light is on, i previously went for a drive on the motorway for 30 mins and it had cleared.....however recently the glow plug light is flashing and the emission control system light is is on.......does any one know what is wrong and what can i do next to sort this problem out......iv been told to fill the tank with some v power diesel and to take it at 4000 revs for 20 mins as this will clear it out and help the car breathe again

You ideally need the car scanning for fault codes. Take a look in the VCDS section of the forum to see if there is a member nearby who could do this for you.
