Hi,

The wife is after a new car and this one seems suitable for her but I was wondering what to look out for on the newer 170 BHP CR engines? What are the common failures and do these cars all have DPF's fitted? and does a remap make a lot of difference? Previous car had a 3.2 V6 petrol so needs to be quite nippy, but still be good on economy which is the main reason for picking a TDi over the T FSI which I would have loved because I hear they go like **** off a stick but its not my car lol. We are looking for a vehicle with around 55-65k miles.

Kind Regards,

All have DPF fitted. Remap will help but it'll never be a rocketship.

My A6 has the same engine. Nothing bad to report in the reliability stakes during 52000 miles. A DPF sensor went faulty and triggered the MIL at about 45k, and was replaced under warranty, but that's it! It's had none of the EGR and intercooler issues I saw on my previous 2.0PD car.

Cheers!

MF.

I wouldn't worry yourself silly over DPFs. I think theres a lot of hype over nothing. Just get some mixed driving in there and you'll never even notice it. Usually people that drive silly short journeys and never do more than a few miles in a run get the problems. Don't let it put you off getting a great car!

P.s. I have been doing some googling on the subject. The 2012 MOT testers handbook is available on direct.gov. DPF deletes would appear to be perfectly legal as long as the car can pass the Smoke emissions test (which defines that the density of smoke out the back must not obscure other users view of the road).

I have the same car with near 80K. late 2008 reg. A pressure switch on the aircon is the only issue it ever has had - touch wood.

It's only a matter of waiting now then. Looking for one with sat nav, s line interior etc and the RS4 rims.
