Hi new to this site but looking at a very tidy although highish miles elegance estate 4x4 with the 1.8t engine. Just wondered if there is anything specific to look out for. I have always steered clear of the VAG 1.8t engines as I heard lots of stories about blown engines and timing belts going. Is this the case or can it be reliable, as there seems to be thousands/millions of the 1.8t's out there. any problems with the 4x4 to look out for.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Bloody great engines (and the Octavia 1U is a great car, a classic), those that seize them should learn about oil change intervals, that is how I picked up my 2003 VRS cheap, not cheap to fix though...

Myself and my work colleague Greg love the 1U but he has two estates to my one. He has a 1.9 TDI Elegance and a 1.8T auto L&K. I think the Octavia 1U is one of the best cars the VAG organisation has produced in the last ten years.
