Replacement Gear Knob

I'm looking to replace an ageing gear knob on a 1997 A3 1.8SE 5 speed manual. I've found a guide to removing the gearknob at: http://www.audiforums.com/m_248309/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm
but it's not clear whether the gear knob and the gaiter are two separate parts - I imagine they are, but would appreciate if someone could confirm (I only need a new gear knob).

I'd also be interested if anyone has details on a genuine Audi replacement gear knob.
