Hi All,

I have used the search and I'm getting conflicting information regarding how to change the passengers headlight bulb. Some say you need to remove the bumper other say not, I'm confused.

My main bulb is flickering, there is no way to get behind the unit to remove the bulb as the power steering reservoir is in the way, how on earth can i change the bulb.

Can some shed some light on this please, sorry for the pun!

Thanks in advance.

Rio

You need to find someone with small hands and doesn't mind scraping a bit of their skin off. Definitely not the easiest job to change, but it can be done without bumper removal.

I will get some photos for you in the morning when it is light- I have 2.0T too so should have same engine bay layout :)

Hi,

I just replaced the head light and side lights in my B7 2.0T today, it wasn't too bad just followed the instructions in the hand book. The cover comes off quite easily and the bulb slides out with a little bit of persuasion. Just make sure you have the little tab facing up otherwise it won't fit in properly.

First post BTW :)

Hi Andy- welcome to the forum :)

Yes there are instructions in the hand book- I have changed the bulbs on the b7 numerous times and the passenger side is the most difficult due to the power steering washer bottle, here are some pics as well.

You need to take the plastic cover off from the light unit first of all- I had a look at taking the p/steering bottle off, took the two 10mm bolts out but it is held on to metalwork at the bottom with a rubber bung I wasn't sure if this had a hose in it so I didn't attempt to move this- if you just take the bolts out it gives you a bit more movement on the bottle.

This is the hole you need to get your hand in- you have to find the bulb holder by feel alone, but if you push and twist the bulb holder should clip out- don't attempt to pull on the wires though! Make a note what orientation the tab of the bulb is at as well.

This is how much space you have!

To refit- put the new bulb in the holder and feed into the light unit- look through the glass lens at the front so you can align the bulb in the reflector. The bulb should clip into place once seated properly.

Thanks for the pics, but my access point is on the lefthand side rather than the back. I have only got 1mm between the powersteering fluid and the light. I will post some pics tomorrow. Maybe on some models they moved it to the left?

I can see the diped headlight bulb but i cant see the main one.

Mmm thats odd- do you have bi-xenon lights? both my b7s have been rear access. What year is yours? Mine is 2006

Yep you have the bi-xenon lights-that's why there is a 'danger of electric shock' label on the unit and you have chunkier wiring- I have no experience of changing these but I know the bulbs are more expensive! I personally would get a garage to take a look as it does look quite complicated, and there are two components in this system- the ballast and the bulb, either of which may be causing the flickering.
