nanagement light on

i have just bought an audi a6 avant 1.9 tdi auto and the engine light has come on but in the handbook it tells me that it is the emissions warning lamp, i'm a bit confused anyone have an idea? :confused:

The car needs a fault code read of the engines computer to see what is stored, it could be any one of many dozens of common problems.
