Can someone tell me is there a guide to decoding the chassis number on my car somewhere on this forum? I'm curious to see when it was made.

You're lucky mine say's it's a vehicle of undermined type :)

Thanks for the responses, the chassis number just says it was made in 2006. But there is another number on the car which apparently says the week number and day in that week it was made. Mine says 41-3 which means it was made in week 43, Wednesday (11th Oct '06) This tallies up with the sticker next to it from my local dealer which says they received the car & PDI'd it on the 23rd Oct '06.

So that means It had been sitting in dealer stock for just over 4 months when I bought it at the beginning of March '07.

I knew it was made the year before because it was dealer stock as they sad they had 20 identical model/colour/spec cars from VW as it was the last of the FSI Sports. (I was prepared for it to be a good few months old anyway as there was a rather hefty discount on offer)

What is quite pleasing is that it looks like an '07 model because the production year runs from Aug - July. So a car made in Oct '06 is classed as an '07 car.

I also found the sticker with all the car's options specified which I'll set about decoding when I find the time. (isn't the web great ;) )

Wahey... same here... now I can tell everyone I've got a Golf!!:approve:

There was another site that tells you all the optional/standard equipment spec on your car based on the alphanumeric codes on the data sticker (should be on first page of Service Manual).

Might be handy for some users, I'm sure I found the link on this forum...

Couldn't find the link I used but managed to find this link which does the job. Maybe it should be saved as a sticky

Well I decoded my options codes, quite dull really, and didn't have most of the options that are on the car, wierd.

You can find a VIN checker here (http://www.oilshop.ro/catalog/vagvin.php). You will be amazed by the detail that you will find about your car... :)

This is a very nice VIN decoder which showed all technical data and option codes I could imagine about my car.
It is way far the best I found.
