View Full Version : DSG Gearbox - is it man enough if I up the engine power?

Hi, I've a 140 HP Golf with the DSG gearbox and am thinking about 'liberating' some more horsepower and torque via an engine re-map. Not going to go silly, an extra 20 - 30% is plenty. Question is, will the DSG gearbox take the extra power? I know you can get the 170 PS Golf with the DSG, is it the same, or am I storing up problems in handling the extra power?

All views taken into account,

Thanks!!!

The 160 PS Passat sport can be had with it. Same box

Hi BW, the 6 speed wet clutch DSG box is certainly man enough for a hike in power but I'd think twice about asking the 7 speed dry clutch box to handle such power.

From memory....the 7 speed is only good for 240 NM but I'm taking it for granted your car is a 6 speed ?

Thanks guys, yes the gearbox is a 6-speed. Will give it more thought!

Only messing about kieth, I agree with you really, I often end up reading peoples posts only to discover later that they are talking about models which have little bearing on my own, or I post a reply which does not help them at all.
