I replaced my cam belt 2 years 29 days ago & at this time changed the water pump, my garage used VW OEM parts bought from VW Groups trade parts specialists. So now my water pump is totally knackered! I have called VW who say they have to ask some questions before they can proceed, What year is passat (2001) How many miles (186k) how many miles since the water pump has been on (21k) urm.... oh... urm, the car is too old and we would not consider looking at the car! I am shocked byu VW reply! I know that its 29 days out of warranty but they are unwilling to even look at the car, so now I face paying for another pump which I know is only £35 but its the fitting (front end off AGAIN) does anyone here have any suggestions or has anyone been in a similar situation to me with VW and had a good outcome? I am considering legal action against VW Group UK as according to my solicitor the sale and supply of goods act still covers the part as it is apparently " not fit for the purpose in which it was intended to be used for" cant really be bothered with this, lifes too short. Help.......

the age of the vehicle has nothing to do with the warranty for original VAG parts, and a repalcement for a coolant pump at 21k is rediculous

Dont take the front off, just slide it forward on studing into the service position, its enough to do the cambelt change or pump.

I would write to them (rather than just ring). Whilst it is out of warranty it has nevertheless failed prematurely and this is the argument you need to make clear to them. I would say your best outcome would be a contribution to the cost.

Okay gets WORSE..... Have spoken with Volkswagens MD executive office (Lesley Hardwick) VW's position is that its out of warranty, not interested! refuse to inspect the car or part. Customer service is terrible. Spoke with Consumer Direct for legal confirmation. The part is still under warranty under the supply of goods and services act 1982! (6 year warranty if the part fails / it is deemed as "not fit for the purpose in which is was intended to be used for" they have asked me to write to the garage that fitted the pump (this is the garage who refused to look at it and told me to contact VW) legally I have no case with VW as my original contract is with the garage! so I am writing to them & giving them a chance to fix and or reply to me, if they refuse to fix it I have to take it to another garage, get them toi fix it, then Consumer direct and trading standards will help me to recover the "damages" under this supply of goods and servies act! all done through the small claims court. RESULT... so I am awaiting a reply from the garage now, will not say which garage until car is fixed but if they dont play ball I will name & shame.

Just a thought, how do you know they fitted a genuine VAG pump and not a cheap one?
