intermitent powre loss

Hi there were driving an audi A6 sometimes because every say 10th time we start it the thermocouple light starts flashing and it kind of goes to sleep.(loss of power) this happens for about three times then its back to normal. We ran a diagnostic check on it and it just says that the diesel pump is dead. Is it possible that it could be something else as this seems strange to have such a odd problem.. also now the abs system light has started to flash could these be linked? if anyone can help we would be very greatfull as its very embarrasing on the way to school it also sounds like it could be expensive and dads not a happy camper
