Hi,

So I have the camshaft problem on my 2007 07 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI BXE engine code. What are my options now? Where is the best place to get the problem sorted ofcourse I want the problem sorted out as cheap as possible. Anyone know where I can buy the parts at the best price?

Also what do I need to replace it do I just need the camshaft and 8 hydraulic lifters? or do I need the bearings aswell?

You can get most of the parts such as cam and lifters off of fleaBay, just don’t expect the quality to be the best or the warranty to be as good as that when you buy dealer parts.

A quick list is

1 x cam
8 x lifters
10 x bearing halves
2 x rocker arm units
1 x cam belt kit
1 x water pump
3 x litres of G12 coolant
8 x rocker arm bolts
4 x injector contact pins
10 x cam cap bolts
1 x cam oil seal
5 litres of oil
1 x oil filter
1 x sump bung with washer

Why do I have to change the parts below?

2 x rocker arm units
1 x water pump
3 x litres of G12 coolant
8 x rocker arm bolts
4 x injector contact pins
10 x cam cap bolts
1 x cam oil seal
1 x sump bung with washer

I thought I would just need the camshaft kit which consists of the Camshaft and a set of 8 x Hydralic Lifters and a Camshaft Bearing set and also it would be wise to get the cambelt changed and the full service done as an extra.

By the way I have found the parts on eBay

Really appreciate your reply as none of the other forums have contributed to help me.

Thanks once again!

The rocker arms, if reused, can eat into the cam like this

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd20/Crasher1964/DSC_0040witharrow.jpgThe The water pump MUST be changed when changing the cam belt, you want a full four years service from the cam belt kit and the pump can fail in two ways, bearing failure which causes the belt to strip and no prises for guessing the consequences of this and the pumps impeller can fail and cause overheating which again needs no explaining.

You lose the coolant when pulling the pump so flush out and refill with a 50/50 mix, 6 ish litre capacity hence 3 litres.

Rocker arm bolts are one time only and MUST never be re-used and the same applies to the cam cap bolts.

The injector contact pins wear and to pair them up with new screws when worn is not a good idea.

The cam oil seal has to come off and it is not a good idea to re-use it. Always cover the cams pulley alignment key with thin clear tape before fitting the seal and the seal MUST be fitted to a clean dry cam and no lubricant used, that is if using a genuine VAG type Teflon seal. If you reuse the seal it may leak and to have to pull the belt off again to replace the seal will be irritating.

The sump bung/washer MUST only be used once.

I don’t know who makes the cam in the kit (there is no way it can be genuine as is implied at that price), the lifters look like INA which is fine and Glyco bearings are top quality.

Greatly appreciate your input!

Gave my local dealers a call today and they told asked me which rocker arm units I needed and I wasn't sure also they said do you need the front or the other cam oil seal again I wasn't sure about this, lastly they haven't heard of injector pins before.

Also which Quantam spec oil do I need to buy is this one okay?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-SEAT-Quantum-PD-Platinum-5w-40-Engine-Oil-5-Ltrs-/200633949261?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eb6b71c4d

Thanks in advance!
