When I bought my nearly new A4, I noticed when I cleaned the wheels for the first time that the dirt almost fell of with the alloy having a silky slippery feel underneath.

I was therefore wondering if anyone had any ides as to what may have been put on the wheels to get this sort of effect because whatever it is it was it is excellent ?

Best product is Poorboys Wheel Sealant. Very good product. I have never used alloy wheel cleaner on my wheels as soapy water simply lifts off any grime.

An alloy wheel sealant is a fair guess

I use poorboy's world wheel sealant every 4th wash with autoglym wheel sealer spray inbetween.

I've got a partially used 5L tin of Autoglyms Extra Gloss Protection and I was that. The brake dust wipes off with a finger.

I was reading recently about Armor All's product :

Independant reviews seem to rate it and various youtube videos for users say it works at stopping the brake dust sticking in the first place.

+1 on the Poorboys superb stuff!
However, if you want a product that you can use on both the car's paintwork AND the alloys why not treat yourself to a tin of Finishkare P1000 Hi-temp sealant (sometimes known as FK-P1000 wax, not to be confused with the same companies pink wax which is an altogether different product). I've been using the FK-P1000 for a couple of years now and have been very impressed by this sub-£20 product. I'm still using the contents of my first tin. It's great on the entire car. (I wax over the FK-P1000 with Collinite 476s on the paintwork only not the wheels)

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards.

Paul.

Looks worth a try, but I can't find it anywhere on UK websites though. I have used Wonder Wheels Wheel Seal, which does a fairly good job, but the non-aerosol dispenser is absolutely rubbish, I tried two more in the shop, they were the same too.

I think this is wise as most wheel cleaners that work have hydrochloric acid in them and after a while make the wheels go dull. Frankly I think alloy wheel cleaner is responsible for premature ageing and corrosion of many alloys.

I use "RIM WAX" - been usnig it for a while now and as KodKod.84 states, I apply it every 4-5 washes (only using a tiny bit) and the break dust just wipes off. I paid £15 from Revolution. Best thing Ive ever used. (wish I used it when I had my Black Hgh gloss alloys - I was forever trying to keep those clean)

I'm trying some supagard alloy wheeel protector. So far so good. Cleaned wheels to near-surgical standard, sprayed on and buffed off.
Water now seeks to bead off so hopefully will any grime. I might try the poorboys in the future too.
