Automatic Stuck In First

:aargh4:on my way back home just I could not get auto to move out of firts gear. I switched to Triptronic and no matter how I tried it still wouldnt change up. i stopped yurned off, removed key and waited a minute tried again and it was fine. Any ideas anybody because I live on a an island (Barra HS9 5UW) and a failure could be a bit of a problem. Thanks in anticipation.:aargh4:

Its best to get a code-read done, as it could be the box, the ecu or a speed sensor.

Usually it stays in 3rd gear (limp mode)
What did the PRND4321 show?
What car it it?
As said a fault code read is the best place to start.
