Hi folks

just looking for some help with getting a newly restored Mk1 Golf 1.1 going again.

We have just put on a brand new Weber carb but she still will not start.

It still has it's original coil and HT leads so was going to replace those as the dizzy cap, rotor arm and points are all new as are the plugs - they are currently Champion RN7YC - are these the correct plugs for the car?

The spark looks very weak and seems to be dancing around the top of the plug and not just within the gap.

The fuel is coming through OK - took the pipe off at the pump and it is coming through the the plugs are also getting wet so i should be fine.

Also there are two electrical plugs on the back of the cylinder head at the top - the right hand one is the oil pressure switch i believe but there is also another sort of in eh middle - can anyone tell me what that is and where it should be wired up to?

Thanks again for any help

Could you post a picture of the plug you are referring to? Replacing the coil for a known working item could divert your attention away from another component in the ignition system.

Do you have a Haynes manual? The small block Mk1 manuals are light blue, it will contain the correct specifications for the plugs, but it is also invaluable for other procedures and data.

Let us know how you’re getting on with it.
