Faulty odometer

Hi everyone,

In the event that there was a fault with the odometer that meant it was not counting some/all of the miles travelled would there be any sort of warning light or similar indicating the fault or could this only be seen by at a diagnostic level by the dealer?

Any suggestions gratefully received.
