Low accelerating power, high mpg

Yesterday (18/6/11) I purchased a 1.4Tdi (51 plate). Drove back from Birmingham to Quedgeley (Gloucester), car struggles from 50 to 70mph, reached 80mph foot to the floor. MPG returned 45.

I have read many threads on this site given the symptoms as to the potential cause of the issue (hoses/pipes/intercooler,turbo itself).

Would the VAG machine potentially identify the issue and is there a fellow member locally with such a machine prepared to carry this out and/or take a once over the car in the hope to identify the problem.

I'd be very grateful if this was the cause before I take it to a garage/Audi dealers as I do not want to get stung as I bought the car for its looks and economy

Did you ever get to the root cause of the lack of acceleration? Sounds like a dirty MAF sensor - which would give same symptoms.
