Hello,
I have a problem with my 1990 1.6CL Mk2 Golf which is losing all of the coolant in the header tank in a journey of less than 20 miles.
The heater is getting hot as is the bottom hose and the fan kicks in at appropriate times. I have just run it idling for 5 to 10 minutes and watched the level in the header tank rise until it shot out of the small rectangular hole facing the strut top mount and just below the filler cap.
Is this correct or should that hole be closed off? I didn't think the cooling system would have such a vent and was expecting to find a split in a hose which opened up once the engine was hot but there was no sign of that.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I thought cooling systems were usually sealed and under pressure when hot!
