View Full Version : Radiator fan won't start, 1991 Mk2 1.3 Golf.

For sometime I do not hear the radiator fan start, when after a trip I stop or prepare to stop my 1991 Mk2 1.3 Golf.

Additional info:
1) When I start the engine and it has been less than several hours since its last run, then the cooling circuit temp led will blink for some minutes.

2)Still the temp gauge does not go much to the right. Not even in slow traffic. I've been using the car in warm environment. Lisboa Portugal.

3)I shorted the Fan contacts for test and both speeds worked.

4)I replaced the termoswitch but nothing changed.

5)The upper and lower pipes connecting to the radiator do not present great difference in temperature. As much as my hands can feel.

6)The cooling pump is being driven by the belt.

Questions:
a) What can I do to diagnose and fix this issue?
b) In which sense does coolant run through the radiator? Bottom in and top out or bottom out top in?

Thanks in advance
BR

Hi!

The radiator fan is now starting.
Maybe I hadn't tested in the correct conditions.

So now the problem is the blinking light.
I will open a new thread for that.

Thank you to those who read this post, even without making any sugestions.
