Bora steering play

My bora TDI 2001 has a small amount of play (2mm) between the track rod and the point which it joins the steering rack. I’ve looked at the manual, but it does not give any detail the garage said it might need a new steering rack. Can any one give me some help as I’m going to the South of France at the end of the month and need to know if its OK or needs replacing.

Hi did you get this sorted my car just got the same problems ,did you end up replacing the rack then and was it a big job
