Had a call from local dealer today advising that Audi have issued a recall to replace a faulty thermostat. They want the car for at least a day. Anyone else get a call? I got the impression that it's just the S4, but the call was from service reception so I doubt they would know anymore.

Of all the A4s, it is just the S4, but I think it might be for the Supercharged 3.0 as such.

And yep, it's a general recall unlike the water pump issue which was a workshop action (i.e. they do it at your next service). I thin this is because the thermostat fails the wrong way, i.e. if it fails your car will thin it's nice and cold, not about to die a burny, melty heat-death.

Interesting. First I've heard - what is involved?

It involves removing the supercharger (just as with the water pump replacement), so I guess a day in the workshop.

Do you happen to know if it's the same build dates as the USA/Canada ones - I presume so? Mine was built in July 2010 so I guess it will need sorting...

I'm going to call the service dept in the morning for more info. Looking at the info from troc I'm a tad worried about the part failing. I'll update if I get anything useful.

I contacted my local dealer to ask about this. Apparently my 59-plate S4 needs both thermostat and water pump updates. It's booked in for next Thursday for both to be done FOC.

So this definitely is real and does apply to UK S4s.

Booked in for 31st as it's the earliest they have a loan car. No further detail other than it's the thermostat and as it's not a safety recall there's no rush to get it done. No mention of water pump but mine is a 2011 my (I think).

All done in a few hours. Car seems to be working fine and is considerably cleaner than when I left it at the dealership :)
