Hi there, i was wondering if you can safely fit a boost controller to the 1.8T. Are the engines quite tough or will it blow to bits at the first sign of stress?

Ive seen the ABD/Split Second BCS Boost Controller, is it any good? and any info would be a great help. Im not after monster power just want to get the car amusing again :)

Cheers, Foil

you need a boost guage too , and find out a safe boosting limit for the vw turbo .

fitting is pretty easy

what kind of controller do you have?

my celica gt4 was 17 psi safe load,, stock was 12 psi. was told 1 psi increase gives 10 bhp .

1.0 bar was a safe limit - 17psi

be carefull of cooling though - turbos get hot - my celica s turbo was water cooled so had more lee way .

blank off hose from wastegate when you take it off. run 1 pipe from controler to wastegate the other goes to the turbo . set it at a lower limit to the max as the spring and ball bearing do move as it beds in .

once fitted you should have very less turbo spool time and can also boost in 1st and 2nd gears when engine is cold, something that was standard on the celica. not sure about the vw,s

i was going to pump it in the same as your diagram shows but the turbo is in a really fiddly place, the cooling is standard so no more than 14psi:(

i used lengths of that blue or red silicone pipe you can get 8mm if i remember . warm it gently with a lighter and using long nose pliers you can shove it on the pipes needed.
its a worth while task as the benefits performance wise are extreme compared to stock.

i think the 1.8t on a standard map goes into limp mode at 0.8 bar which i think is around 12psi

minie is compleaty stock apart from the boost gauge and it says 8psi at about 3000rpm then goes down to 7psi at 5000rpm, so you are saying don't run any more than 12psi 0.8bar?

cant be sure mines is a stock auq head ( 180bhp ) on a run with vagcom the highest my boost recorded was 1740mbar (1800 max ), 1000 mbar is classed as athmospheric pressure so boosting at 740 mbar, which was around 10.5 psi

currenty waiting on my guages arriving from newsouth so cant confirm what it shows
