i have a 3.0 tdi q7 and i think its using more fuel than normal. i put £70 of fuel just over half a tank and only got 200miles. the onboard computer says iam doing around 19mpg.

what mpg are you geting? or how many miles per ££ you get?

You must be flooring it everywhere lol. Have you checked tyre pressures? When's it due a service? Any fault code(s) found?

Im my 3.0TDI A6 im getting about 24mpg around the town and middish-high 30's mpg on a long run. Not sure how many miles im getting per tank but id say roughly around 400-500miles between empty and full.

I went from an A6 to a Q7 and was suprised at how bad the MPG is in the Q. But, it is a heavy beast.

I have found a few things that will improve the MPG, but it very much depends on your driving style.

When the engine is cold, try to accelerate as slowly as you can. Keep the revs at or below 2k. Use the paddle shift to upshift earlier to keep the revs down. There's enough torque to keep the car accelerating.
Try not to brake. You'll use less fuel getting back up to speed if you're still moving.
Turn your AC off.

Fuel economy improves the longer the journey is at a constant speed. Lots of short journeys will kill the MPG. My drive to the office is 25 miles on a dual carriageway. I have gotten a tad over 29 MPG on one trip but average 25-26.

It's taken a while to get used to, but I now average 22 around town and get somewhere between 450 - 500 miles from a tank, depending on length of journeys.

Cheers

If you have an engine management light illuminated, then it will certainly affect the MPG. Sounds like the car is needing an extensive service which should rectify the faults and the MPG problem, particularly if the air filter was black!! I personally don't think mid 20's MPG is too bad for stop/start round town driving, but of course if you've never been used to it, then it can be quite a shock!! My old BMW V8 petrol was achieving 23 MPG round town and 32 on constant motor speed, so running the Q7 isn't too concerning for me.

We get between 17 and 22mpg round town and short trips. On the m/way can easily get 32mpg. About what we expected for a vehicle of this type.

I'm getting 22mpg and it's the 4.2 TDI so I'd expect a 3.0 to at least get mid 20s.

Funny how the claimed MPG is never achieved!
