Hello
this problem is causing a good deal of confusion.
I want to change my timing belt and so I got a timing belt kit from ebay (says it's out of date, I hope that is not a problem):
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200572531525&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Now, the listing clearly states it is for my car and to make doubly certain I e mailed and he assured me it was.
When it came, the pully was nothing like mine, it was more like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Timing-Belt-Tensioner-Roller-VW-Audi-A4-Passat-1-8T-/380132116254?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5881a3c71e
Indeed virtually all the timing belt pulleys I have looked for are of this type - with the brass attachment.
To me I thought this where from the revamped typed for audi 97 onward.
But i just can't seem to find my type which is a circular pulley with no brass on.
However, I did find this wonderful article:
http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng35.shtml
He actually replaces an old timing belt with pulley which looks identical to mine and merely exchanges it for the new type.
Is this all i have to do? because it's confusing the livings out of me.
I do hope so, it would be a lot easier to put on if I can just replace the old type for the new.
