My Passat 100PS TDI Estate has again almost seen off its tyres, 195/65 x 15 V, in 10,000 miles.Never raced or rallied and tyres wear evenly but traction light does come on in wet conditions on occasion.
Had four wheel alignment done when tyre appetite was first noted. Most of my mileage is a commute from Chesterfield area to Buxton, Derbys.
Been doing this since car was new - never had more than 14,000 out of the front tyres. Tried Michelin, Kleber, Firestone and Continental plus current Vredestein Quatrac II. Are there any brands which genuinely wear better but have adequate grip?
Now looking at Black Circles who seem to be cheaper than the usual suspects.

I recently changed the front Dunlop SP 200E on my PD130 at 28k.They still had 3mm left.As I tow a caravan I consider that they did well. The rears still have 5mm left.
I fitted Vredestein Sportrak3 as these came out best overall in Auto Express tests.Mytyres were doing these for £44.70 each including delivery and I had them fitted by a Mytyres agent at £10+vat each. That £112.90 total.Mytyres are doing them now at £43.90.

Best,
Frank

Michelin HP Pilots here.

Done about 22k so far on my Passat 130TDI Estate.

They have about 3mm left on them and are due a change soon.

I drive at warp speed everywhere by the way, sedate driving on them should easily achieve another 10k on top, the rears are hardly worn.

Michelins may cost more but the adage 'you gets what you pays for' really stands. I've tried all sorts of tyres; pirelli, continental, dunlop, goodyear etc etc and none compare.

I like toyo tyres as they are very good for the money and last well, although I can't see them lasting better than mitchelin you can probably buy 2 set's for the price of 1 set of mitch and they are not far behind. imho

My passat is running on 205/60/15's, I'm looking at a new set as they're all on around 3mm and I've done 18k on them since I've had the car (haven't had to touch the tyres yet). 'Frank' mentioned 'Vredestein Sportrak3' tyres at £44 each? I know yours are a fraction narrower, but my tyres retail at £88 each, plus balancing. What sort of tyre do you get for £44? You say they were rated quite highly by a magazine?
