I have a 2010 2.0 TDi A3. For the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that the Emission Control System warning lamp does extinguish when the ignition key is turned. It DOES extinguish when I start the car and it doesn't illuminate when I'm driving. There is no noticeable difference in driving the car, no funny sounds or anything so everything seems OK.

It appears to me that the Emission Control System startup self-test is failing something but then, for some inexplicable reason, it doesn't indicate any problem when driving. I only noticed it while waiting for the coils to warm-up one morning.

I have a sense that this has been encountered by other A3 owners based on other thread comments but I haven't seen any explanation. I could it to the Audi guy and get the diagnostics run but that will set me back a cool 150 euro.

Any insights out there?

A scan wont cost that much, not even in rip off Ireland. 60-90 euros from main and cheaper from a good indy.

2 x 150 and you could but the latest VCDS software from ross tech.
