I've just finished upgrading the standard speakers (x 8) in my new Mk 5 Jetta 1.6TDi SE.
There seems to be a lack of info on VW sites regarding upgrading the speakers, particularly the rears.
The front speakers can be reasonably easily replaced with 16.5/17cm components plus SAK-3108 adapters.
The rear speakers are smaller but can also be replaced with 16.5/17cm components plus SAK-3108 adapters without major difficulty.
On the rears the softish plastic/rubber speaker ring mounted on the inside of the door card will need to be removed, but again no major hassle.
I fitted Alpine SPG-17CS components to all doors and the sound has improved significantly.
(I replaced the RCD310 a few weeks ago with a Pioneer AVH-3300BT in-dash CD/DVD/USB/SD/BT unit - there seems to be plenty of info available on how to remove/replace headunits).
