Not sure if this a national price point but popped into ASDA yesterday & they had this on sale at £30 for 4ltr and £10 for 1ltr. May have just been this specific store shifting stock but there didn't seem to be any special price signs against it.

It was the ASDA on the A3 just before Robin Hood roundabout.

That is cheap, the cheapest I have seen is at Nielsen CDG which is £37 / 4 lt. but you have to add postage onto that.

Might check my local.

Thanks for that mate, very useful as I need to top mine up but are you sure it was Castrol Edge 5w-30 on offer? I popped into the Roehampton Asda on the A3 (one you mentioned) and they only had the 4 litre 5w-40 Castrol Edge (plenty on the shelf too!).

The 5w-40 is the VW 502/505 spec suitable for fixed internal servicing. Still a good price but the 5w-30 is the longer life version VW 503 spec. Asda did have the smaller 1 litre at a tenner for both 5w-30 and 5w-40 and also the lower spec Castrol Magnatec 4 litre at £24.

Visited a few other Asda's on my travels and not all of them have the Castrol Edge 4 litre offer for 30 quid. Tesco are also doing the 1 litre Castrol Edge for a tenner but not seen the larger 4 litres available in store anywhere.

That's a cracking deal for 9 litres, not seen anything remotely near that on eBay :bigeyes2:

Our local ASDA has been selling Castrol Edge 5W-30 ( 504, 507 specs) £30 for 4 litres for some considerable time . Before that they used to sell Mobil #1 "esp" 5W-30 ( same specs) for £32 for 5 litres which was a better deal.
The ASDA price is cheaper than Halfords trade card price !

Are these the Asda superstores only or just your local Asda? I've seen the 5w-40 deal in the Asda Living home stores as well but not found any yet selling the 4 litre 5w-30 brew :(

Yep, 5w30 - 4ltr / £30 (I took 5 ltrs). Must have just been lucky with the stock being there on the shelf!

Interesting to see other stores offering the same deal, hopefully they will keep it that low for some time to come.

I'll pop into the Roehampton/Robin Hood one again then. Otherwise will stick with the VW 502 spec 5w-40 which is fine for fixed servicing which is pretty much what everyone does anyway.

If you can't get that stuff there is a company on Ebay selling the Quantum Longlife (what they use in the main dealers) stuff for £25 + £9P+P for 5 litres.

I wish someone would sell it in 6 litre containers as it takes 5.5 litres to fill my engine so I have to buy 8 litres normally for a service which costs a lot. It all gets used though with amount of oil it leaks!

I bought some of that Quantum Longlife stuff from the dealer a few years ago for the same price and amount. Might call up the dealer here but I only need it for a top-up between services.

Only concern about sticking with the VW 502 spec is that Audi put in 503 spec longlife oil as standard when they service a car and the handbook says it's ok to mix the two with a small amount of 502 but only once between service intervals.

The stuff on Ebay is the longlife 503/507 spec gear.

I think it's only the larger ASDA "superstores" that have the 4 litre containers.

Yep, only the bigger Asda superstores plus those Home Living ones have the 4 litre Castrol Edge.

Managed to get the 4 litre 5w-30 brew from the Docklands superstore, they had 2 left on the shelf so looks like these are being snapped up quickly.

For anyone in the Bristol area or passing this way, the big Asda just off M5 j17 (Cribbs Causeway) has plenty of the 4 litre and 1 litre tubs of both Castrol Edge 5w-30 and 5w-40 oil...same price points as above.
Also a surprisingly good range of cleaning products!

You could always go to your local TPS and buy the Quantum and save on the postage

You could but if you are not trade I doubt it would be as cheap as that would it? I will ask next time I need some.

Seems expensive to me when you can get a oil change and filter (including labour) for £35.00

Would you let those monkeys anywhere near your car? I wouldn't for one. Plus their quote doesn't appear to include a filter (if it does I doubt it would be genuine VAG). It also says the quote is based on supplying 5 litres for my car, but it takes 5.5 to fill it up after a filter and oil change.

Thanks, but no thanks!

Last night was the first time I've changed the oil on my Audi. Recently bought a Pela vacuum oil extractor...easiest oil change I've ever done. Wish I'd heard of them before. No scrambling around under the car, fiddling with undertrays. Brilliant. Best £30 I've spent in a long time...:approve:

Costco have got 20% off Castrol oils at the moment (until 10/04). They definitely do edge 5w-40 and with the 20% off that is coming in at £22.08 (inc vat) for 4 litres. I think they do the 5w-30 as well - but can't remember off hand. (They used to (approx 1yr ago do triple packs of the 1l - which I'm sure were wrongly priced at £13! - I bought about 10 (3l of 5w-30 for £13 - however they never came back into stock again).

ozwold - liking the look of these vacuum extractors - anyone else got any feedback on them.
