I have a 96 golf, 2.0 liter, washed under the hood, did the engine, and everything under the hood, now it wont start. It soudns liek the engine wants to start but it wont. I air dried all my wire connections, checked all my hoses, battery is fine, plenty of gas, covered the computer and windshield wiper motor b4 getting the anything wet, I used straight water and a degreaser on everything, i also let the car sit for 5 hours then tried, still wont start
Anybody have any guesses on what could be the problem????
Check (and dry) your spark plugs.

Was about to ask the same... I just washed the engine bay of my Civic a couple of days ago and as well as covering the dizzy cap etc i was advised to keep the engine running while washing it.
Hope you get it sorted soon..

Yes I checked my plugs and they spark fine, the dizzy cap is fine, i washed my bay once b4 while it was running and again something got wet and the car stopped running, i thought it was the computer so i covered the compuiter this time and apparently it wasnt the problem....any toher guesses???
On the 2.0 MK3, you've got the huge connector at the front of the engine, I'd split that, wd40 it and try again.

i did the same thing with my cavalier a few years ago, left it for a few days and started fine. Probably just needed to dry out
