I have one of the last Mk6 Golf's in SE trim fitted with a horrible plastic steering wheel. Want to retro fit a multi function leather wheel and seen a couple on ebay but sold without airbag. Main dealer says the airbag fitted to my model is a different part no. and not sure if they're compatible. Does anyone know for sure? Don't want to get the wheel and then have to pay £750 for a new airbag! Not even bothered about the MF controls working, just want a decent wheel to hold. If I'm not able to source a wheel complete with airbag for a Mk6, will a complete unit from a MK5 fit? There's more of them around and they're much cheaper. I think it will but steering wheel control module has to be reprogrammed. Any help much appreciated.

If you're not that bothered about the multi function option working why not go for a leather steering wheel.I believe these came as an option on the se model for about £100.

You should be able to find a leather steering wheel in a scrap yard by now. There are several part finders websites that cover major scrapyards around the UK.

I must admit that I'm not keen on the plastic steering wheel in my '59 plate SE, luckily one of the demo cars I've driven had leather wheel (with multifunction) which feels much nicer in the hands :D

I've added leather wheel (none - multifunction) to the spec, it was £125. There's probably one or two mk6's been written off by now so leather wheel should be a reasonable price, if only £125 when new.
