I have no experience of audi but i did test drive a mk4 golf 130 bhp manual 6 speed. It felt immense.

so there's my vote.

Hi there,
I drive a Mark 4 130 GT TDI. Best VW I have owned. Powerful, fast (if you want it to be), economical and having had it from new can say that it's really economical to drive. Take each one for decent trial before making your mind up. Cheers.:approve:

Love my 03 Bora TDI PD130. Unbelievably quick and ridiculously economical. Total no brainer IMHO.

Hi
Go for 130bhp Tdi Golf................
If it was passat against A4.........
I'd say A4 all day long...............
But Golf tops A3 all day long......
Thats my opion and Ive driven both at great length....

I have a mk4 golf v6 4motion, it's the best car i have ever driven/had it is fast when you want it to be and good to drive around town. however i have gone up against a few Gt tdi's and they are quick. i'm thinking about changing to diesel cause day to day driving they perform just as well.

true and i would probably agree after having a drive of the new audi engine, BUT you have to remember, the 2.0 is a new(er) tdi lump and comes with a higher price tag, like for like, i think the golf 1.9 vs a3 1.9 the golf would win with me every time....

the 130 bhp gt tdi coupled with the 6spd box is a perfect combination, many people have complained of the turbo lag on the 150 (larger turbo, longer spool time)

both the a3 and the golf have the reliability mastered (apart from the few common faults on both) so really, it would be down to image and which badge you would rather be sporting.:beerchug:

I just hit 60,000 with my mk4 v6 4motion, with 8 stamps in the book, and she is just coming in to her own, touch wood no problems, keep it serviced regularly, i think i could add 200,000 to the 60,000.

ok so pref the audi for me the finish is slightly better than the golf interior and exterior drivability and yes the wow factor the price is more but you pay for what you get
140 bhp six speed box its so much better than the 1.9 tdi lump
much better pick up through the gears and puts a BIG smile my face
(only my opinion)
rich..;)

59,000 on a 51 plate. Mine does lots of house visits, but also has plenty of opportunity to seek its head on dual carriage way/motorway use. So far regular VW servicing up to 4 years thereafter local mechanic working for himself.
If I had the chance again, I would be happy to buy exactly again BUT I would get leather seats.
Cheers.
