Right to make it easy i will split my story in 2 sections, 1 to get to the point (for those who havent got time) , and 2 to tell you the whole story (for those who have got time :D)

1) Basically, i took my car for a service (VW Dealership, dont know if im allowed to mention which 1), they scratched the bodywork in two places.

They "resprayed" part of the areas first time - but still, dents/mark was showing and it WAS NOT IN THE CORRECT COLOUR

SECOND TIME - today, went again and STILL - wrong colour! :zx11:
my body is a reflex silver, and they have sprayed it in a DULL colour compared to that.

They believe (managers and supervisor) that there is no difference and the job is professional. The manager's answer was:

"it could be due to the different materials on the bumber and body. obviously our body shop's AFTERMARKET paint may differ to VW factory paint.

What i want to know is - if they do not complete the job to the correct colour, what can i do? who can i complain to? can i sue??!?!? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

2) The nightmare goes something like this:

My vw golf, gt tdi 115, went for a service. £400 later and the following occured:

-2 days after the service, heavy rainfall made its way into my passenger footwell. I took the car back and they replaced the plastic seal below the windscreen wipers (which was cracked). They admitted fault and replaced free off charge.

- 1 week later - my alaram keeps going off (I believed due to leak). Take it back, and they take the car in for one week to strip the carpet and seats to dry.

Courtesy car is given and insurance is paid by dealership.

- 1 Week later and i go to collect my car. Hand the keys back, collect mine and i realise two large scratches on my body work. They give me the courtesy car back and they take it for a "spray)

- 24 hours later, i return to find my car having had a "respray" it is in the wrong colour and the blemishes from the dents and scartches still show. i go home, being asked to return next week for another "spray".

- monday 2nd july, i hand my car in, and collect the courtesy car.

- 3 july, i go to pick up the car, and tbh NOTHING has been done. Its like they never sent the car for a spray.

This then leads on to part 1, where i complain to the supervisor and manager.

This was the first time i went to a dealership for a service, and tbh i never will again. The customer service was terrible. I made endless calls and complaints. The team was unhelpfull and very negative in helping me.
To make it worse i get a penalty notice from wandsworth councill saying i was parked incorrectly (previous user of courtesy car) and i had to chase vw up to sort that out.

If they do not sort this out i really am thinking about taking legal advice!

Im not saying this will happen to everyone, but it has happened to me so just be carefull and check your car before you drive off!!!

Sorry for the long story, just thought some people would like to know.

Thanks for reading

ok, to summarise.... you have given them ample opportunity to fix the paintwork, that tosh hes feeding you is just that.... they can get an exact colour match, they're a VW dealer. if they cant, they should sub contract it to a specialist who could mix the paint to match exactly, blend it with the surrounding panels and you'd never see it had been sprayed.

type up a letter, demanding that they source a reputable body repair specialist and arrange for your car to be repaired at their cost at this specialist. (unless you know of one in particular you'd like them to use). make sure you tell them you want a courtesy car at their cost for the duration.

they've admitted liability by attempting to repair it, so no problems there ;)

if all else fails, write to VW head office, detailing your complaint, enclose pictures of the paintwork and demand a resolution within 10 days.

if you hear nothing, get onto Trading standards.

dont do anything verbally now, make sure everything is backed up with writing.:beerchug:

I agree as above. Get everything in writing and recorded delivery sent.

Hope its a good outcome, my fingers are crossed.

I agree with what others have posted above. I had similar trouble with Citroen dealers refusing to fix faults, even after I got an Independent Engineers Report backing up my claims....in the end I made such a stink about it that the dealer bought the car back off me, hence I now have a VW.

Get everything in writing, send letters recorded delivery, and log down the dates and exact events of what has happened. Persistance is the key to getting the better of uncooperative dealers.

However in my case I found Trading Standards to be useless, as were SMMT, I had to keep plugging away myself, which is probably what you'll have to do unless you can afford a solicitor!

I found Trading Standards to be useles!

i couldnt agree more, TS were no use to me whatsoever, had i not been as eloquent and as **** as i am about keeping dates, copies of letters and sending everything recorded delivery, id probably still be getting abusive phone calls now!:(

Thanks for the advice everyone.

i must admit i have lost it with them a couple fo times, by raising my voice and telling them how crap their service is.

But the way i now see it is if i keep annoying them they will have to sort it, unless they want me on their back day after day.

Keep the advice and views coming

nice 1,

Ummm.. no i didnt.. i was thinking to wait for the phone call. The manager called me today to tell me the bodyshop manager would call tomorow DEFINATLY, as he spoke to her.

If the phone call doesnt resolve anything i will then write the letter... or should i not even wait for that.. thing is the manager of the dealership seems to be an ok person - although he thinks the job is ok he said he wouldnt argue with me and that he would give the bodyshop manager a call to sort it out...

Anyway, tomorow is the last day.. then i will do exactly as u suggested.. thanks alot for the advice...

keep it coming guys!

Paintwork should be an exact match, demand no less and stick to your guns about this!

Passat170, i will!

the main thing that annoys me is that when the nice weather comes (if it does), and when i decide to wash my car and polish it... the car will be sparkling... and the bumper will clearly show up in a dull colour. It will ruin it.

Apart from that its just simply wrong and out of order not to have it in the exact colour. Im going to make sure this gets resolved!
