My golf 3 starter is held on by 3 studs which all screw into front engine mounting. Being used to easy starter removal on Fords, I made a start on the job and then realised that it might be necessary to support the engine to change the starter. How difficult is it to locate the studs again if they are all removed? I couldn't figure out whether the 17mm nut comes off the end of the 2 longer studs, or whether it is all one special stud which has to be totally removed before starter can be pulled away. Does anyone know of any crafty ways of doing this job please? Oh for the simple system of 3 x 17mm bolts on Fords.
