inner cv boot joint question~?

I have a slight dilemma with my mk3 golf GTi Agg, doing the inner cv boot on it as diff blew up but anyhow,
There is a splined dish shaped washer that goes on 1st b4 u put the inner joint on, is the dish washer supposed to face down or upwards???
Need help urgently!!!:confused::confused::confused:
