I’ve got an issue with the water temperature on my car. Once it’s been running for a while it seems to settle on a temperature of 70C instead of the usual 90C (or at least I assume it 70C if the temperature gauge is linear).

I’ve had a search on the forums and and there appears to be a number of possible causes for this issue so apologies if it has been answered definitively before. The three causes appear to be the temperature sender, the thermostat or the gauge in dash board. Looking at what others have said I don’t think it’s the gauge as it doesn’t jump around or is erratic.

I believe the sender and thermostat as the possible culprits.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Very likely to be the thermostat IMO.

as the dr says prolly the stat, but the sensor is easier to change are are known to fail also.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Looking at the prices for both the sensor and the thermostat I may as well get both just in case.

For the sensor, from another post I've got a part number of 059919501A. I don't suppose anyone knows the part number for the thermostat?

Thanks again.
