Hi

Does anyone know whether the colour MFD gives greater control over customising vehicle functions and if so what?

Cheers

Hi Nick,

I can recall this being discussed on another forum site last year when the colour MFD became available as an option on MY11 vehicles. Sorry, can't remember which forum, and I've been unable to find the discussion thread, but I find golfgtiforum.co.uk is a good useful information source.

I seem to recall the conclusion was that you were only getting a colour display over the normal Highline computer (on the Golf, at least).

I know selecting options is a very personal choice. The colour MFD does look nice, but if you do only get a colour display over the standard Highline computer, then £185 does seem quite expensive.

Probably worth checking our with your dealer whether or not you get any additional functionality, although from personal experience, I've found they aren't always the best information source.

Good luck with your choice.

Yes I read the same thread on golfgtiforum.co.uk forum but I found it

Thanks for your replies, very helpful.

I agree that £185 seems a lot of money for not very much, though I do like the way the Passat CC's needles swing round the dials on startup

OK, so the colour MFD has a tad more visual impact that the monochrome version, but otherwise it does absolutely nothing above and beyond that which the previous one does - a total waste of money for all except the "must have/look what I've got" brigade.

Just thought I'd mention the curious fact that the white MFD display can also display yellow - as it will for example when your front disc pads need changing (or your broken snow chain has flailed through the wiring loom :Blush2:).

I am always of the boring opinion that car manufactureres MUST get the essentials right before embarking on even more fripperies and I don't want any more control over my car's operational functions, thank you very much.

There are a few VAG models that have this option. The GTI does the needle sweep (http://www.google.co.uk/#q=golf+gti+needle+sweep&hl=en&prmd=ivns&source=univ&tbs=vid:1&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=2u5sTannN4ewhAfRrZmPDA&ved=0CC8QqwQ&fp=589e371a8f33fa02) but you have to set this with VCDS to enable staging. I've thought checking if mine could have the needle sweep but I haven't go around to checking yet.

You can test all gauges (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwtdlJ1g2xk&feature=related) if they sweep with VCDS.

I must be getting old cos i agree with Marvin, there's little point in paying extra for it.
When i got my Mk6 i kicked myself for not spec'ing the highline MFD, but in hindsight i've not missed any of the extra settings or gadgetry one bit ! The standard midline MFD tells me all i need to know.

Maybe a daft question Keith, but why would you want to set up your instruments to sweep on start up - you'll soon know if they work or not surely. This isn't a flippant question, I genuinely don't understand why anyone would want to fiddle about with the settings to achieve this, but why not I suppose http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b212/HighlandSniper58/Emoticons/emoticon-0114-dull.gif
