First and reverse are the hardest gears to get if your clutch is not clearing correctly. Either hydralic or worn clutch ? Is she slipping or feel funny on the pedal ?

Maybe a dud box ,but also potentially a clutch issue

Where's the bite point on the pedal, high or low?

Hiya,
How much roughly for a basic cluch from local garage?

Does seem to be the clutch not disengaging fully letting the input shaft spin slightly hence only noticable when stationary.Just a thought, how long is it out of its warranty, have you got full service history?if it is the gearbox, poss check with audi for a contribution.

It's clutch related if as you have explained reverse and 1st gear selection is a problem ... try dipping the clutch pedal, keep pedal depressed for 5 seconds at least and try and engage reverse gear .... ;)

If you have dual mass flywheel (dmf) you will probably be told to replace that with the clutch and may see a bill approaching a grand, sorry.

Hiya,
Its an 07 so i guess its out of Audi warranty,
I bought it from a Skoda dealership near Milton Keynes a good 80 miles from me.
It belonged to the boss's girlfriend and been serviced by them for a couple of years.
I did get a warranty in the deal from a seperate company, not sure its gonna be worth the paper it is written on.
Is it a big job?

Local Audi main agent advertises clutch replacement at £649 ... whether this is inclusive of DMF I'm not sure?

If its a late 07 its months out of warranty, hows your service stamps? it cost nothing to try, 30k is low miles, its very difficult to tell over the internet how difficult it is to get in gear you might possibly benefit from a oil change its a long shot I know, vw gearbox's do benefit from a oil change.
