I'm 28 and I use a broker in North London called Sky Insurance, nothing to do with television either. Give them a try, I pay just over £400 a year. 0208 364 5500

Well it does also depend on your circumstances and your location, I am in darkest Cornwall, so I dont get affected by the post code lottery, I also have 11 years NCB but I have recommended them to others and they have always done them good

OP thats a lot ! I usually run 3rd party fire and theft, on my 1.9tdi sport 04 this year cheapest i've been offered was €425. €590 fully comp, this hasn't changed much of the past 2 years. I'm 30 with 7 years NCB. Most I paid was €900 3rd/f+t in my S2 , 2.2 turbo coupe. That's in Ireland where insurance is supposed to be expensive...

Wow.....:(

Ok..I'm 47 and have 10 years NCB and I use Gocompare and am insured with More Than at present.
Just checked as my insurance is due shortly and for a 20. tdi 07 plate A6 I have been quoted £263.00 fully comp.

Do yourself a huge favour and input all your details to the Gocompare website. Once you get the top 3 price back, haggle with each ofthem to see what you can get off.
Call the 1st one and say that Swift have offered £600 fully comp etc etc ( having knocked maybe £100 of their actual price ) and then do the same with the others using your actual lowest price less £50 or so and see where you get!!

I'm pretty much about as low as I can go now and won't save much, but someone like you??
Spend 2-3 hours on the phone and I'd put money on you saving hundreds...

Good luck :beerchug:

Good advice there from JimC64, I've also managed to knock off around 50 quid by playing off the top three quotes against each other. These big insurers are a bunch of sharks and spivs so don't do them any favours by giving them your business without a fight.

Interesting to read about quotes here. I'm 37 years old, 10 years NCB with 5k annual mileage and my cheapest quote this year was £280 full comp protected also with More Than who have consistently been cheapest for me ever since I got the S-Line. Prior to that, Admiral was always cheapest for my old Audi Cab.

I rang Chris Knott and they were very helpful but unable to beat the More Than quotes. Definitely worth calling them though as they're very helpful and will do their best plus you won't be dealing with an Indian call centre :aargh4:

wow thanks for all your help guys

thing is, till now i was 3rd driver with my dad, now i have taken step to become first driver. and as result have NO NCB so have to start from scratch

ones like tesco and swift are declining to quote online..i am assuming its because of the quote! i contacted RAC and they said 3k quote! lol

going to try sky insurance and see what they say... i have used compare websites, the ones with 3k excess are quoting 1500 and ones with less excess start from 3k premium

Hi there....your comment about being a 3rd driver and now trying to go out on your own......This in all likelihood is your problem checkmate!

I think you may have to try " specialist " insurers to get the best deal you can here?
Here's an example......

my 2 sons aged 17 & 18 just passed their test around this time last year and I bought them both a little Renault Clio 1.2 W reg for about a £1000 each.
I tried various different methods, insuring them only, myself as the proposer with them as a driver, my wife as the proposer with themas a driver etc etc.....nothing worked and the cheapest quotes were around the £2800 - £3500 mark.
I eventually went with I-Kube insurance and was insured as follows.
The boys were the proposer with no named drivers and started to build a little history for themselves. The limitations were as follows.....
They had a tracker fitted to the car and a "curfew" where they could not drive between 11pm and 5am.
This brought the price down to £1489 for my 17 tr old son and to £1177 for my 187 yr old son..

I know its not something you probably want to consider, but if you wanna get your own insurance history started you may have to?

Anyway...good luck :beerchug:

If you go with companies like Direct line, you can have a named driver still accrue no claims bonus. This is useful for keeping the premiums a bit lower...but can kick you in the teeth though later on if you decide you want to switch insurers as they arent valid outside of the company. From what I've experienced as a young driver (24), Id recommend just starting straight away as the number 1 driver..you wont win with insurance companies whilst below 25. FYI I still keep my mum on my insurance as a named driver..even though she never drives my car as it keeps the premium down!!

Im your age and have a 2L A4 Avant. My insurance is less than £300 F/C with Swift Cover (through GoCompare). Prior to that I've had a mix of cars, some sensible and some really not and have been relatively lucky with insurance.

With Direct line, as already said, you can build NCB as the MAIN DRIVER. When the time comes, simply continue for another year with Direct Line. They wont be the cheapest company, but they will honour the NCB you have built up with them.

The trick is not to make any claims for the next 12 months, then you are free to leave Direct Line, go elsewhere, but still have the full amount of NCB.

HOWEVER, at some point your going to have to bite the bullet and move out from your parents at which point it would technically be insurance fraud to continue under their name.

All the Best,

Ash

It pays to shop around a bit. This is what I did and there was one quote which was so much cheaper than others (not sure why), took them up on it though. You could always get a cheap quote and see if your current company will match the price. I'm with Budget Insurance btw, I recommend.
