Hi all, I have had my car for about 3 weeks now and have started to notice a knocking noise coming from the rear of the engine were the fire wall is.
The symptoms are..
When I touch my finger on it, it stops?
When the car warms up the sound disappears
The hose jumps up and down
It’s very lowed when cold

I have uploaded a video
http://s188.photobucket.com/albums/z319/phi11_/?action=view&current=AudiKnockingNoise.mp4 (http://s188.photobucket.com/albums/z319/phi11_/?action=view&current=AudiKnockingNoise.mp4)

Dose anyone know what this is, do i need a new one? Or can I fix it.
I can put a cable tie around the hose and it stops the noise but I don’t want to just be covering up a problem.

My car is a 06 A4 Sline 2.0T B7.. (with 164.000 Miles :) )

Thanks for the help :o

you have problems my friend and it needs more than a cable tie

the Exhauster pump appears damaged and possible inlet camshaft and chain plus tensioner

brake exhauster, needs stripping but fear the worst as the exhauster pump is driven by the inlet cam

assist brake vacuum pressure for the brake servo, so if the pipe brakes away you lose the servo assist and crash

Remove the unit and inspect the the inlet camshaft cut out for damage, the exhauster is driven by the cam so it could be damaged or it could just be the exhauster itself

Ok thanks i will take a look tommorow.
So im looking for damage in the cam shaft cut out?
Is it a definate that i will be needing a new exhauster?
(i dont really want to ask this but) If theres damage to the camshaft cut out will i need a new shaft?

It looks like the either the exhauster pump is moving from excess wear and possible damage to the inlet cam or simply the pipe connection has broken away from the casing

can you feel any movement and looking at the servo pipe (pic number 2) is there no clip holding the pipe into the pump housing?

Hi mate, im not sure what clip you mean?.. the black hose in photo 2 moves in and out when its cold (thats what makes the noise) and then when it warms up it goes..
Also i have noticed when i start up from cold and it starts knocking.. if i put the clutch down then up or the brake pedal it stops sudenly. So sudenly that i thought the engine had cut out..
I thought it was a broken clip so i used a jubilie to hold the pipe from going in and out, it didnt end well tho as i tested it around the block and the brakes failed (it was ok tho as i just used the handbrake then removed it)..
I really dont no what too do, i dont want to buy a new pump unless i defo need one..

Thanks for the help..

Remove the the clip off the end where the rubber hose is attached, its maybe the tube the pipe is crimped to,poss when it gets warm its expanding and making good.cant get my head round why pressing the clutch down stops it though?

Hi mate, good suggestion but ive already changed all the standard clips for jubilie clips and its still doing it..
Strange that the clutch would have anything to do the brake vacum..

When you hold it in does it stop jumping.

unless the dmf is vibrating through the hole engine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or you have combustion intolerance from camwear or camchain /tensioner wear and depressing the clutch counter acts the vibration

its one of those things that needs to be seen in person

Hi, just got it back from the body shop were i have been having a few dents done.
It dose stop completly when you put your finger on it.
It also stops instanly when i put the clutch down and/or when i press on the brake pedal a few times.
Its a strange one tho as i thought this must be a common problem or something and i would have everyone telling me to do a search lol, i think i might have to spend the £110 and hour charge and take it to Audi..
Dose anyone know of a good independed Audi specialist in the south east London area?
Thanks
