You may have read about the new Multi-media interface (MMI) which has appeared on the A8, A7 and the new A6. Which all incorporate the touch pad.
However Audi have been working with NVIDEA the graphics designers and have come up with a new MMI system that should start to phase in by 2012. To first be introduced on the next generation A3.
If you google 'audi mmi ces' there are a few demo videos of the system. I must say, its very impressive! Any of you who have played Gran Turismo 5 will certainly have a feel for this new system.
The differences on this new system so far are;

-on the current rotary switch you zoom in or zoom out. (3D HDD mmi/sat nav) However the new system is now touch pad. Like your iphone/ipad.
-Just a simple toggle switch between NAV or TEL, rather than buttons. (like on the current A4/A5/A6)
-In car set up page. You can find statistics about your car. BHP, TOP SPEED, etc! Including a 'checklists' section. Simply checks the cars; Oil, windscreen washer level, battery, etc! If it discovers a fault or a top up required it alerts you.
-In the latest MMI, its a case of pressing a button in order to see a page. However on the forthcoming MMI its like a 3D globe which you use the rotary to spin through the menus. A 3D effect.

It all seems impressive and will certainly be the first of its kind if it actually goes ahead and released! We should all know shortly, as the new gen A3 is rumoured to appear next month in Geneva. FINGERS CROSSED!
