Hi guys, can someone help me please, i've recently bought a 2001 S3 and the first few hundred miles have been fine but driving late last night on a d.c.w doing about 70mph the boost just seemed to drop off:confused:
I though to myself damn i've lost power but the car was still drivable.
No warning lights came up and i manged to get it home.
The car has a boost gauge which normally boosts to 14psi, (the previous owner tells me these cars can run 21psi but this one's on 14psi as it's had a new turbo recently and it's being run in) but now it'll barely make 5psi :zx11:

You can hear the turbo spooling but it sound more like a sort of surging sound and power is also coming in surges. The car still makes 70mph but i doubt it'd go any faster (not that i'd want it to anyway ;) )

Can someone give me some pointers please, i'm not that mechanically minded so saying stuff like have you checked the c24948v valve and the overhead sprocket cocket ring valve will be lost on me lol
All i know is the cars had a brand new turbo and a brand new actuator, there's a few samco hoses in the bay too so i'm thinking it's not a problem with the hoses.

Any help would be much appreciated as i really want to go to the pub tonight and watch Spurs beat Milan otherwise i'll have to stop home :(

Cheers

Jonny

Has the car gone into limp mode? It barely makes 5psi it's like driving the car with no turbo! How would i get it out of limp mode?

I'm surprised that no-one has responded to you. Have you sorted the problem?
Best thing to do is to just get a diagnostics performed first. Find a local VAG specialist, as they will be cheaper than Audi! Then once the diagnostics is done and you have the codes, try and get the mechanic to actually explain the codes and to what it might relate to.

why did it have a new turbo?
has it been setup properly? Actuator rod might not be set properly.

You may also have a boost or vaccum leak.

A more specific description may be helpful. ;)

forgot i made this post! I booked it in at Audi Northampton then on the way over it just stopped messing about and was fine, typical!
Carried on anyway and in the end they gave me a free health check. The car had no major faults but the turbo did throw up 3 fault codes but they wouldn't diagnose them as there were "non audi parts" fitted to the car!

It needs setting up big time, it boosts to about 12 psi but drops of to around 10psi, what boost should the car be running?
