Hi,

Was wondering if anyone can help.

I have a 2006 Audi S4. The Emission Control light came on and the car is now slightly jumping/jerking, even when non idle.

Any ideas what it could be and how it could be resolved?

Emission control light is what used to be called the Check Engine Light or Malfunction Indicator Light.

It means the ECU has detected something and logged a fault code. You need to get the car scanned for faults.

I would suspect a failed coil pack.
Scan for faults first.

Thanks.

Worrying part is the car jumps and jerks slightly, but the engine runs fine. I just booked it into a local garage for a scan, lets see what comes up.

Also, any chance you can enlighten as to what the potentail problem may be.

Thanks

As Kite says sounds likely to be a coil pack. The description you gave sounds like an enigne missfire. Could be other things though.

Apologies to sound completely car ignorant. But is that a big issue or a lot of work required and expensive?

Assuming it is a coil pack, it is very little work involved in changing it. Not sure how much the part costs but wont be massive amounts of cash.

The final Cost came to 250 pounds not sure how the priced that form an independent garage.

Ask audi, their charge is £35 for the ignition coil, £140 labour and VAT. but they all so need to doa diagnostic to it will be a further £100 .
