Would really appreciate some advice. I test drove a 2002 A4 avant tdi (130) yesterday. On the motorway the ESP and Glow Plug lights came on and the car lost all power......What does this sound like? The car has done 124k and the service history seems all Audi main dealer. Cheers

check the brake lights are working, brake switches are prone to fail.
Get the car scanned for faults..

Cheers for the help. Any ideas roughly how much a specialist would charge to put a brake light switch right?

Still waiting for the seller to check and get back to me. I obviously walked away due to the loss of power and obvious concerns. Going looking at a 2.5TDI Quattro today. Hope its a good un.

Put a deposit on it yesterday. Collecting tomorrow. Really impressed with it, still unbelievably tight. It is well up on miles at 162k but with one fastidious owner and it's got an impeccable main dealer history, spoke to the Audi dealer who talked me through every service that it's had including 2 belts and recall work etc. It does feel like a bit of a gamble as I'm not much use with a spanner but I know these cars are bombproof if looked after. The bodywork is tatty but I can live with that.
I fully expect that I will have to spend some money on it to keep it going and I'm going to get a local specilaist to give it a once over. In my position and considering the age, mileage and model what preventative maintenance would you recommend??

regular servicing with the correct oil.
What colour and options are on the car.
Don't forget to join the B6 club..

Cheers.
It's silver and completely original (unabused) with factory Xenons & half leather seats so not many options.

give audi a call on 0800699888, they can give you the list of options that were fitted at the factory....
