Hi there
Ive posted this question on quite a few different forums and just had rude guys taking the mick! :zx11:

Ive got a 1999 VW Polo and i want to change the gear knob. I have no idea how to do this, i have tried to unscrew it but with no luck!
Please excuse my lack of technical language but the black cover that is at the bottom of the gear knob seems to be glued or something to the actual knob. People have been telling me to twist it but i have really tried, i even got the pliers out! but it doesnt seems to be one that you can just twist off?

Please please someone help :o( and also, is there any kind of gear knob that i need to get, or will any old one do (apart from lift reverse)

I look forward to your replies

p.s - please be nice

Hi, most of the VW gear knobs i have seen use a catch/clip which is under the gear shift gator (the cloth around the gear leaver), this is normaly elasticated at the bottom and just flicks off then you should be able to see the clip, failing this if you have not got the new gear knob yet any tuning speacialise should be able to advise you when you get it, darfe i say even halfords may help ;)

on the T4 the gear stick gaiter is secured by a a lip on the gaiter and a locating ring on the base of the gearknob, the gaiter can be pulled downwards to release the gaiter from the gearknob the its just an unscrew job off the stick. i know that a previous fiat we used to have, a sharp (possible very sharp) tug released it. maybe try giving it a sharp tug upwards?
(ps please be mindful that i have deliberatly tried to make this sound as unsexual as possible(eg tugging/knob/stick etc etc), given your unsuccessful posts elsewere, and may sound a little patronising! sorry if it does:-()
