Hello, when i purchase my 2000 A6 2.5tdi recently it came with 5 stud RS6 style 18''x8'' Alloys c/w 225/40/18 tyres.
I would like to change these to a more standard 17'' alloy.

I just purchased a second hand set of original A4 17''x7.5'' alloys c/w 235/45/17 tyres & they lock solid on the front suspension!

I believe it may be to do with the offset?
The inner distances between the wheel hub & edge of tyre wall is 150mm on the 18'' & 165mm on the 17'' alloy.

Can anybody help with any suggestions to get over this?
Many thanks..

Sounds like the offset is different. The offset for your wheels should be stamped somewhere on the inside of them for you to compare - look for ET45 or ET35 etc - that's the offset. If you want to stick with your new 17"s you can get around this using spacers, but be careful to get some advice on choosing and using spacers - I've heard that cheap ones can give you wheel balancing problems becuase they do not line up perfectly central on the hub.

And you will need longer wheel bolts and locking bolts. Regards Peter
