The Octavia 4X4 TDI is a 1.9 engine but well down in comparison to the rest of 1.9's in the VAG range(105 BHP AIRC).They aren't the quickest things out there..most of the VAG 4x4 cars lose approx 30% of the engine output through tranmission.

I'd suggest a Passat 1.9tdi 130 4motion tdi estate if you can find one cos they are fairly rare.Far better value for your money and the Audi quattro system as fitted to the Passat is way better than the haldex system on the Octavia

Hi there

I was having a nose round the site and came across your query:

I am running 2 A4's at the moment (very similar setups to Octavia) . 1 FWd and 1 quattro

The quattro units if looked after are pretty bullet proof, you will however lose about 10 to 15 % on your fuel economy and your servicing bills are going to be higher.

The 4WD are great fun on twisty stuff and in the wet, but if i am being honest the Front WD feels the lighter and more nimble motor.

So if you need 4WD go for it but the bills will be higher. If you dont need it, your probably never going to miss it.
