I'm after purchasing some LED number plate light bulbs.

What size bulbs should I be after?

From what I've read it looks like 39mm festoons.

I found these on fleabay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-x-39mm-4-LED-Festoon-Number-Plate-No-Error-CANBUS-/270634256678?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f030f0926

Just want to confirm either way.

BTW before anyone asks I drive a 2009 year model A4 s line.

Many thanks in advance! :beerchug:

Why would you want to fit LED bulbs in the numberplate light?

Can I direct your attention to this thread

http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=112837

You have to be aware of the bulb out error with these bulbs

Oh and as for fitting the LEDs- it gives a more visually appealing light then the yellowish standard ones and will look smart against a white car.

I see BMW have LED number plate bulbs as standard on their new models

I bought and fitted them and they look a good job (no errors) - the eBay seller appeared to be UK based but not long after ceased trading (I got a warning through from Paypal). I can put up some pics if required.

Waiting for them to arrive , will report back when that happens and I get them fitted.

These are the ones I got

One broke though and never got another set - put the standard ones back in.

Well , these arrived today and , despite being a bit of a tight fit ,are now installed and working.
They provide a very bright light exactly as described in the listing.

I am extremely happy with them :D

Blimey the bulbs I got have 3 x LEDs per side (same size as std bulb) and are brighter than the new BMW bulbs, 6 x LEDs per side must be like a lighthouse!

May be a silly question but would buying led bulbs from BMW fit and will it have built in resistors to avoid error light? Just a thought as I quite like the idea - also a White b8 sline

I have had my fair share of compromised mods from the past to learn not to tinker with things too much!

It all depends on the CANBUS set up in the onboard diagnostic system- I know that the B6 A4 can take some LED bulbs with resistors built in, but of the 3 types I have tried on my B7 none work and I get a bulb out error even with the built in resistors.

Looking at the replies here you are finding bulbs that work with the B8 with no problems on eBay though :)

I've ordered some of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-x-39mm-4-LED-Festoon-Number-Plate-No-Error-CANBUS-/270634256678?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f030f0926

When they arrive I'll put some photo's up on here when fitted!

Any pics when installed? Just ordered Xtec C5W LEDs from hids direct as a whim from reading this thread. It has x6 LEDs per bulb!!! O hope it's not overkill and looking like a chav!

Anyone tried the xtec?

The ones I posted earlier in this thread have 6 leds and they look great , definitely not overkill in my opinion.:)

Just fitted them this evening.

Very pleased! :D

Bulb holders are a git to get out - very tight. The old bulbs were easy enough to take out, but again the new ones are a tight fit.

As always everything is down to personal taste...

But why the hell have you got that disgusting piece of plastic advertising ***t on your car ?!?!?!?!

Do they pay you to be their bill board each month?

It's the weekend so I hope you now know what's job number 1! :D

LED's on number plates?

Being totally honest i've not seen a car in the flesh with them that I like.

I find them too bright and too harsh. Normally I'm all in favour of LEDs but I'm just not keen on the spot light on the numberplate look.

It's hard to tell from any pics hence why I didn't comment on them ;)

Oh and it seems you're not the only one on this thread carrying advertising hoardings !

I told my dealer no plate advertising and no stickers anywhere ;)

I was in a queue tonight behind an Audi with numberplate LEDs. I too can't see the point of having two very bright triangles of light across the numberplate. Looks too harsh, creates a visual effect that does not suit the car IMHO.

Yeah, I notice when a girl walks back from the toilet with her skirt tucked into the waistband of her panties....... but I dont find her more attractive as a result ;)

The LED number plate lights are far superior IMO.....Give off a much crisper white light with a slight bluish tinge....I have them in mine and always get compliments.:approve:

They also match my brighter white LED interior lights taht replace the old "yellow" 1960's style look.

My headlights also have the Sportzring 80w / 100w white blueish lights ....all of these features lift the car IMO and brings it much closer to the newer models.

How many new models of ANY car do you see coming out with older stylw yellowish and dull lights these days?

Not many, but all down to personal preference :beerchug:

A week ago I posted the above.

This week I'm considering fitting LEDs on my number plates soon. :yikes:

The reason?

Control of brightness is coming ! :biglaugh:

Bristlehound - Loving the LED look on your rear:beerchug:
The again i would as I have done the same mod.....only to bring it ito the 21st century mind by making it a much brighter, crisp fresh look....The old "yellowish" 1960's look doesn't do it for me!

+1 as Scotty though on the numberplate advertising....Personally I hate to see this and Audi / Renault stickers etc on the rear window and remove them ASAP.

I've included a few pics below showing my numberplates ( try myshowplates.com ) and you can make up your own:approve:
There is of course the whole legal / illegal issue but I've never been pulled for mine ever and just recently passed an Audi MOT with them to!
I've also added an older pic of when I retro fitted my LED's some time ago
