Hi, I have a 2003 Audi A6 1.9 TDI. It has the standard 16" 5 spoke alloys and the tyres need replacing. I am thinking of a choice between 3:

Falken 912
Pirelli P Zero
Goodyear Eagle F1

Any comments very welcome as I haven't a clue. I am looking for a balance between hard wearing and stickiness, I know you can't have both ends of the scale, but handling is quite important to me so long as I am not replacing the tyres every two weeks!

More Importantly.... the size of the tyres on the car now are 205/55/16 but a friend told me you can often squeeze an extra 10mm of grip onto most alloy wheels. Is this the case with these does anyone know? Or did Audi fit the widest possible tyres on these at factory? (i.e. is it a choice between 195 and 205, or 205 and 215?)

I would love to go for 215s but can't afford to make a mistake so wondered if someone here knows?

Thanks, great forum

If you change your tyre size from non-standard be aware that in the event of an accident the insurance company will be looking for a "get out" excuse not to pay up.

Be careful!

Blimey!! Thanks for the warning! Amazing, considering I am trying to put MORE rubber on the road?!

Stick with 205's, an extra 10mm will make no difference and may become a bit too wide for the wheel - Audi generally knew best ;)
