Strange noise

[A3 s-line]

i have this strange noise when i rev my car from tickover, it just suddenly started doing it about a month ago. also does it when the car is sitting in neutral and idling

My A3 makes exactly the same noise, has done since 23k on the clock to now 65k.

Audi say it's a known problem on the BNM/BKN/BKD engines, the noise is "annoying" - sounds like the police are following you, and some members I think have managed to get Audi to replace the turbo but be prepared for a battle as they say there is no performance issue and my car is testament to the fact it's still going strong 40k miles later since it was first noticed.

I understand the issue to be with the internal fan blades of the turbo having a slight angle/pitch that causes the whistle/hoot.

Mine does it, BKD engine with 75k on the clock.

It is the turbo but doesn't mean it will definitely blow.

63000 on the clock and has done it since i bought the car over a year ago with 47500 on the clock.
