Hi all, I need to get some sort of bluetooth set up in my newly purchased 2.0t and I see on eBay there is a guy selling what he says are Audi bluetooth kits with loom, mic and module, anybody know if these are the real deal and if so how difficult to retro-fit?

Thanks, Phil

Hi

Not to bad to fit but some of these units come from Lithuania etc etc i fitted one to my old A3 it worked fine but didnt do everything i wanted i had the old iPhone 3G and it wouldnt down load the contacts my freind now has this car and has the iPhone 4 and it still wont download etc etc, You may want to try a FISCON kit you can get them from Fiscon UK and are not to hard to fit either i did mine in my current 06 Audi A4 S-Line:D and i'm no expert but i did have to visit a dealer to code my car to enable the phone bit but this was painless and cost me £20, also the Fiscon kits are probably the same price as the ones on Ebay and at least you have a UK supplier to fall back on and as a bonus the Fiscon kit streams music from ny Iphone through the speakers and sounds awesome.:D

Thanks for that, I will look at the Fiscon kit, maybe I can tie up bluetooth with Ipod/iphone link up then.

Thanks. Phil

I was in the same boat as you last year after alot of reading i decided on OEM as it seem to get the better feedback here and on other forums .

So i went for the unit posted above , works perfect and a good price to .

If you want music/ipod you can add a xcarlink or dension car kit , i have the xcarlink which works well as i don't do apple .

Just my opinion but i would have OEM over fiscon any day of the week.

Hi, i have just looked at the OEM bluetooth kit via your link, does it come with good instructions as i don't want to waste a whole weekend and have "er in doors" giving me the eyes. I might also go for the Xcarlink of dension, which would you recommend?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, what head unit do you have , mine is a single din so it was a bit more complicated to wire but if you are experienced with audio electronics it will take a couple of hours .
If you have an RSN-E double din unit i'm sure its easier .

This is the website of the people on ebay .

Just so you know if the mic does not work , unplug the connector and turn it round some have been wired wrong in the block , mine was but its a very easy fix .

I have no experience with dension but heard good things about them, i love the xcarlink as i can play Mp3 via 3.5 jck plug, sd card or usb stick the quality through the sd card is fantastic.

Others that use apple can advice you better than me, i'm sure someone will be along to help.

I have A3 2007 2.0t s-line with symphony II double din. Do you get text on the display with the Xcarlink?

I'm not 100% sure as i don't have an iphone/ipod here is a link to there site

http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=6&cat=4&page=1

With my xcarlink that only connects to mp3 via a 3.5jack plug it does not show info as is can't be passed through this lead. i think the ipod one does as it the connector on the bottom of the ipo. you will have to check .

Pilmill 63 , again i'm not sure as i don't have an iphone , my htc desire works perfect which is one of the newer phones on the market .

That is the unit i purchased last year and it works with no issues at all with an iphone 3gs and iphone 4. Technical backup from these guys on install was also very good. Highly recommend.

Most of these BT kits have the mic as part of the kit, is the wiring present for the mic and where does it go??

Thanks.

Mic and wiring are in the kit , it fits inside the centre roof lighting console and the wire is fed behind the screen pillar. See here

Well, i now have all the parts, and i am nearly ready to begin. Did you solder or scotch lock on to the original harness for the bluetooth connections to the module?

RMH1
24-01-2011, 07:25 PM
Scotch locks are fine , mine is single din so it has lots :).

Billy, please could you post up a breakdown of expenses please so we know what we are looking at? I'm considering this mod but cash is tight.

Thanks Ben

Boak !! I wouldnt use a scotch lock on anything. They only cause trouble down the line. In the dealership that I last worked in, you got a written warning if you used them for repairs.

lol, im just saying :)
I strip the outter sheathing back, twist the wire and a smooth line of solder ( very little required )
Just different strokes for different folks :)

Both methods sound acceptable to me. I will decide on the BIG day, still not 100% on the module location, under seat - sounds like lots of work, behind glove box - messing with airbags - no thanks, not much room at rear of symphony II. I will probably try the space on the lhs of the steering column - behind the lower drivers side dash panel. Any new locations found? A3 2007 sportback

Billy, if you use the wiring loom in the kit it wont reach under the seat.

Mine is on top of the glove box its easy to remove only a couple of minutes.

billyw

Inside the glove box? Is it straight forward to install?

??

RMH1
24-01-2011, 11:06 PM
On top of the glove box, out of the way.

Best way remove glove box and head unit do all your instalation ,easy with both removed, test it all works and then refit with unit resting ontop of the glove box.

The guide i posted further up the page shows a pictured guide to this.

Is that the invisible man taking out the glovebox ? Either that or a levatating ratchet lolhttp://184.72.239.143/mu/5e0eec3b-fd70-865b.jpg

I am just running through the process. Is k-line required for A3? And then there's the coding values, i am sorry to say i have a rip off cable and 805 software (£200 + for the proper item would not pass with the Mrs). I haven't tried it to see if changes are possible with this cable ,i have just used it to clear an error. So i don't really know my way around the coding process. Sorry to be a pain, but any help here would be appreciated. :1zhelp:

My bluetooth module fits nicely on top of the glove-box (cheers RMH1) with a little sticky backed velcro. This must be the best location, as the space at the side of the steering assembly looked difficult with the delicate antenna protruding.
